LONG BEACH — Long Beach firefighter Tim Harrison has been taken to a hospital for a minor injury sustained while battling a house fire that gutted the residence and killed the homeowners’ three dogs.

Firefighters said the blaze at 195 LaRosa Road was a major structure fire and they called for help from the Gulfport Fire Department.

The homeowner, Darrell Biggerstaff, told officials he returned home after a trip to the store and found the house afire.

The Sun Herald updates this story in Saturday’s editions.
