It was rivalry night in South Mississippi, and the Gulfport Admirals got it done in style.
At Harrison Central, however, the Sun Herald’s No. 1-ranked team was stunned in the final seconds. Keagon Gillihan threw a late touchdown pass to Adrian Whavers and Hancock slipped past the Red Rebels 27-25 at Earl Phillips Sr. Memorial Stadium.
The upset helped Ocean Springs win the Region 4-6A championship. The Greyhounds pulled away from George County for a 31-21 victory over George County in Lucedale.
Dylan Favre had another big night for St. Stanislaus, passing for 498 yards and five touchdowns as the Rockachaws drilled Quitman 49-21. The Class 4A playoff victory gave St. Stanislaus the first 10-win victory in school history.
Ocean Springs backs Allen Howze and Dwayne Cherry both rushed for more than 100 yards as the Greyhounds slipped past George County. Ocean Springs (9-2, 6-1 in 4-6A) did an effective job bottling up the Rebels’ all-purpose threat, R.J. Spivery.
Gulfport, meanwhile, got it done with offense and defense in its season finale against archrival Biloxi. With the Cellular South “Y’all vs. Us” TV cameras in the house, the Admirals crushed Biloxi 35-0 on the Indians’ home turf. Gulfport’s Shadale Chambers rushed for 189 yards and two touchdowns in the victory.
