METAIRIE -- Tight end Jeremy Shockey will not play Sunday when the New Orleans Saints host the Carolina Panthers in the Louisiana Superdome because of an ankle injury.

Shockey has missed all three days of practice this week after leaving last week's game in Detroit with the ailment. It will be the fourth game Shockey will sit out this season as he missed three contests following sports hernia surgery.

Running back Pierre Thomas (wrist, back) also missed his third consecutive practice and is questionable for Sunday. Saints coach Sean Payton said he would work out Thomas and defensive tackle Kendrick Clancy (hamstring, didn't practice Friday, questionable) before the noon kickoff to determine their status.

If Thomas can't play, Deuce McAllister and Mike Bell will split carries and the team would sign Lynell Hamilton off the practice squad.

Tackle Jammal Brown (ankle) and cornerback Usama Young (ankle) practiced all week, including today, and are probable.
