Auburn's apparent interest in first-year Ole Miss football coach Houston Nutt has brought Nutt a raise.
A big raise.
Nutt has agreed to a contract extension at Ole Miss that will boost his annual salary to about $2.5 million, according to multiple sources. The Birmingham News had identified Nutt as a potential candidate for the Auburn job, which became vacant earlier this week with the resignation of veteran coach Tommy Tuberville.
Nutt, 51, led Ole Miss to an 8-4 record this season, the Rebels' first winning season since 2003. Ole Miss is expected to receive a Cotton Bowl berth on Sunday.
Nutt's salary for the 2008 season was an estimated $1.7 million.
