The National Weather Service has issued a hard freeze warning for South Mississippi beginning at 10 p.m. today.

Temperatures are expected to dip below freezing during the late evening hours and reach the mid- to lower 20s overnight. Those temperatures will last at least four hours, which can kill outdoor vegetation and caused exposed water pipes to burst.

Residents should take proper precautions, such as wrapping exposed pipes and bringing in plants before the temperatures begin falling.

The hard freeze warning is in effect until 9 a.m. Friday.
