VICKSBURG, Miss. -- A Warren County Jail inmate is being sought after escaping from the jail.

Sheriff Martin Pace said Monday his office is looking for trusty Eugene Lewis Jr., who had been arrested in March for credit card fraud and residential burglary.

Pace told The Vicksburg Post that it appeared Lewis left the kitchen Saturday, where he was assigned to work that evening, went downstairs to the basement and left through a garage door.

Pace said the doors are normally kept locked, but was unlocked for trusties to take meal trays from the second floor to the bottom floor.

Pace said he does not believe Lewis is armed or a danger to the public.
