ITTA BENA, Miss. -- The inauguration of Mississippi Valley State University President Donna Oliver raised more than $30,000 for student scholarships.

The four-day event from Sept. 10-13 featured several musical performances, community events and a golf tournament in addition to Oliver's ceremonial installation Sept. 12.

Through Oct. 27, the event had generated over $125,000 with some donations still pending, according to records provided by the university. It cost $93,800, which left over $31,000 for scholarships.

No public money was used.

Anna Hammond, MVSU's chief of staff, who chaired the inaugural committee, told The Greenwood Commonwealth the event brought energy to the institution and showcased what Valley has to offer to the community.
