Come and get them

Please print this. A basset hound and a bloodhound, both males, were found on Monday in Woolmarket south of I-10.

Had collars on but no name or number on them. We had no where to keep them so we called animal control and they took them to the Humane. Society in Gulfport.

Call them at 863-3354 and go get them now!

Thanks

A sincere thank you to all those involved in putting on Gautier High School’s recent Veterans Day breakfast, which honored all those who have served our great country. It made me proud to call Gautier my home.

Day off for vets

Why is it that the children of Harrison County are attending school on Veterans Day? It is my opinion that honoring our veterans would be more important than taking two days off for Mardi Gras. I am not putting down the Mardi Gras tradition, but our veterans have played a bigger role in the every day lives of our children than Mardi Gras has.

There are other holidays and teacher workshop days that are not more important to us as Americans than what our veterans have done for us, yet school is closed. I would like to see Veterans Day as a school holiday.

Get a flood policy

Not many want to hear this. We all know how poorly the profit-driven insurance companies can, and often do, treat their policy holders. However, the jury got it right in the latest decision on Bossier vs. State Farm. When looking at damage to homes inside flood zones and those outside the flood zone, it is all too clear what the water has done.

My reason for writing Sound Off today, contrary to what you are thinking, is not to side with either State Farm or Bossier.

My message here is: If you live anywhere near water, get a flood policy. What happened in past hurricanes cannot guarantee it will never be worse in the future.

What next?

I am very discouraged that Chancellor Jones has chosen to remove “Dixie” from the list of songs the band plays at the University of Mississippi. He is punishing the whole for the deeds of the few.

What will he take away when they continue to shout the chant?

He is punishing fans that weren’t even at the game.

Huge mistake.

Pick up your signs

Yard Sale signs should be removed afterwards — within 24 hours — or be considered litter and fine the resident. Think about it, the litter has their address on it. What a great way for the city to make money.

I look at yard sale signs on the way to work every day that are three to five weeks old.

If you can litter the streets with them, you should pick them up or be fined.
