Consolidate schools

It’s about time Mississippi got out of the dark ages and consolidated public school systems into one per county. It makes no sense to have multiple school districts, each with its own administration, purchasing and overhead instead of one for the entire county. How much could be saved in administration costs, not to mention bulk purchasing? The poorest state in the union can’t afford this much bureaucracy.

Dogs vs. kids

The vote is in. Strollers were much more annoying and clogged up more traffic at the Peter Anderson Festival. In addition, the dogs were more well-behaved than the children and took up much less space.

Different ingress

To the historic crater founder: First off. It’s Holiday Drive, not Holiday Avenue. Second, the entrance to Wal-Mart in Pass Christian is on Hayden Avenue (two entrances) and on Beach Boulevard. If you had read the sign it says truck entrance; this means delivery trucks only. So, if you don’t like the “crater” you found, use the right entrance. Thank you.

More than neighbors

South Seal Avenue in Biloxi is not just a neighborhood, it is truly a family. We celebrate the good times in our lives and come together and support each other when something adverse happens. Tonight I came home to a surprise birthday party given by my neighbors to celebrate my 60th birthday. I would like to thank them all for their support and for always being there. I have lived on Seal Avenue for more than 50 years, and I can honestly say that my current neighbors are the most caring families we have ever had on our street.

Necessary operation

In response to the “old Navy” fellow who wants to disband the Coast Guard, it is apparent he has very little knowledge of what the Coast Guard’s responsibilities are. Guarding the coast is but a minuscule part of the Coast Guard mission. One of the missions is guarding U.S. Navy ships in the Persian Gulf and upon learning of this former Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld wanted to know why the Coast Guard guarded Navy ships and installations and the reply from the Navy brass was, “They do it better than us.” The U.S. Coast Guard is scattered over the world performing missions that the Navy just isn’t trained nor suited to do. The Coast Guard has been “Deepwater” since its inception in 1790. Both have their missions and both are necessary.

Give and take

All the people who think there should be a public option in the health-care reform bill should remember, the government cannot give anything to anyone that they have not taken away from someone else.
