Matteo Manassero holed out a 9-iron from 160 yards for birdie on the way to shooting 67, one shot behind leader Rory McIlroy. Ernie Els struck a fan in the face with his tee shot, missed a putt from less than a foot, then missed again when he took a sloppy backhanded swing at the ball for a triple bogey.
