Ryan challenger Amar Kaleka raises $29,000 in Q2

The Associated PressJuly 16, 2014

— In the race to unseat U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan, Democratic challenger Amar Kaleka raised about $29,000 in the most recent fundraising quarter.

That's about one-fourth the fundraising total of his fellow Democratic candidate, Rob Zerban (zer-BAHN').

Reports filed with the Federal Election Commission late Tuesday show that Kaleka brought in just under $29,000 in the quarter ending June 30. He has $10,000 cash on hand.

Zerban reported raising $104,000, with $102,000 cash on hand.

Kaleka and Zerban will square off in an Aug. 12 primary. The winner takes on Ryan in November.

Ryan, the Republicans' 2012 vice presidential candidate, will be tough to beat. He has national name-wide recognition and formidable fundraising skills. He raised a personal-best $1.6 million last quarter and has $3.8 million in the bank.
