Ribbon cutting for final link of Highway 6

The Associated PressJuly 15, 2014

— Mississippi Department of Transportation officials plan to cut a ribbon Tuesday to mark the "completion" of the new Mississippi Highway 6/U.S. Highway 278.

The new, final link in the Tupelo-to-Batesville route won't open to traffic for a few more days because of weather delays.

The $26 million last section will run from Mississippi Highway 342 in Pontotoc to U.S. Highway 45 in Tupelo.

The highway from east of Pontotoc to Batesville has been open for several years.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1rbxhYz ) that MDOT has scheduled the ribbon-cutting event on the roadway at the Graham Road/New Highway 6 Interchange with an alternate rain site in Tupelo City Hall's council chambers.
