Ulrich coaches talented South squad in MAC All-Star tennis tournament

The 10th annual Mississippi Association of Coaches All-Star Tennis Tournament will take place Thursday., and there will be a Coast flavor on the courts of Parham Bridges Tennis Center in Jackson.

Gulfport's Courtney Ulrich, who participated in this event as a player, will coach the South squad along with Amy Fairchild of West Lauderdale.

There are two Coast girls and three Coast boys on the 12-person South squad.

Resurrection's Sarah Williams and Gulfport's Emma Simmons join Kaley Bufkin and Shannon St. Clair of Newton County, Holly Ford of Wayne County and Lauren Marler of Brandon.

Simmons replaces Stone's Hannah Wegner in the South lineup.

Two of Ulrich's players -- Garrett Hearn and Michael Kuhlmann -- will join Ocean Springs' Andrew Risley on the South boys portion of the squad. Other boys are Bryden Reed and Keith Bishop of Newton County, and Abe Mars of Philadelphia.

Williams won back-to-back Class 1A state championships in 2013 and 2014 in girls singles.

Risley helped Ocean Springs win the 2014 Class 6A state team tennis title and teamed with Amanda Kilduff in 2013 to win the 6A state mixed doubles title.

The North is coached by Tupelo's Laurie Bishop and East Webster's Pam Champion.

Action begins at 1 p.m.
