Gulfport felon accused of having a gun

Zandius Kentrel Coleman, 31, was arrested July 12 on a charge of possession of a firearm by a felon.

GULFPORT -- A felon was found with a handgun after a person flagged down police following an argument with him, police Sgt. Damon McDaniel said.

Zandius Kentrel Coleman, 31, and the person had argued in the street Saturday, and the person reported Coleman had a handgun as he got in the passenger seat of a vehicle.

Police stopped the vehicle in the 4600 block of Old Pass Road and Coleman tried to hide a gun under a seat, McDaniel said. Police checked his criminal background and learned Coleman has a prior felony conviction.

Police arrested Coleman, of Gulfport, on a charge of possession of a weapon by a felon.

Coleman was booked at the Harrison County jail and held on a $15,000 bond set by Justice Court Judge Diane Ladner.
