Veteran's Memorial restored in Waveland

The Associated PressJuly 14, 2014

— The city of Waveland is planning a re-dedication ceremony next month for the city's restored Veteran's Memorial on the beach.

Mayor David Garcia says the city would like to add an arch over the memorial. He says the board of aldermen will discuss prices this week.

The memorial was damaged two years ago by Hurricane Isaac.

Garcia says when the city decided to repair it, upgrading the site was an important consideration.

A new drainage system was installed and an underground sprinkler system added to water the grass which now covers the site.

The memorial will also feature several benches which will be used for special events or residents just wanting to sit by the beach.
