BILOXI -- The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Mississippi was shaking things up at its Martini Shakedown on Saturday night at the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino.
The Martini Shakedown featured food and drink, live music by Bag of Donuts and many martini flavors to sample, such as doughnut, chocolate, the Beau-marga-tina, lemon, and the classic martini.
The silent auction featured martini gift packages from both local and national artists, vacation getaways, unique items and an array of food prepared by the Beau Rivage's chefs.
Now in its 10th year, the Martini Shakedown was started by Make-A-Wish Foundation of Mississippi director Shellie Moses.
"About 11 years ago, we approached the Beau Rivage about doing a presenting sponsorship, and they said if we came up with something really unique that hadn't been done, they were all in," she said.
"Then one night I came up with the Martini Shakedown."
She has watched the benefit flourish over the past decade.
"The first year was more of a drawdown, but it has become its own life form," she said.
"We've got so many people that care about the organization, the community and the kids in the community," Moses said.
"A lot of local businesses have just really come out to support us by donating. "
All money raised is used to grant wishes for area children.
"We've got about 30 kids now that are waiting for their wish to be granted, and all the funds that we raise go to help those children whose wishes have not yet been sponsored," Moses said.
Last year, the Martini Shakedown raised almost $80,000, and Moses predicts a similar total this year.
"We've had record-breaking individual ticket sales," she said. "It should be a tremendous success for us."
