The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks Fisheries Bureau is hosting a pond management workshop on Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Lower Pascagoula Wildlife Management Area headquarters on Wade-Vancleave Road.

The hour-long presentation will include topics on pond design, fish stocking, harvest, vegetation control, liming, and fertilization, followed with a question-and-answer period.

"This workshop will allow biologists and private pond owners the opportunity to discuss management options to improve fish populations and habitat," MDWFP fisheries biologist Stephen Brown said in a statement. "We talk to people each year that want to manage their ponds effectively and this is a great way for us to provide how-to information that can help pond owners achieve their goals."

For people interested in attending the workshop, call Stephen Brown at 601-582-7721.

Alligator season: The state has two different Alligator seasons. The Public Waters Season lasts from Aug. 29 to Sept. 8. The Private Lands Season lasts from Aug. 29 to Sept. 22.
