Larry Taylor is leaving his post as Pascagoula Ward 1 Councilman to become boys' basketball coach at Water Valley High School.
The Water Valley High School District approved the hiring of Taylor at a School Board meeting on Monday.
Taylor told Pascagoula City Manager Joe Huffman and City Attorney Eddie Wiliams on Wednesday that he plans to step down.
Taylor is expected to submit his resignation letter to the Council at its meeting on Tuesday. The resignation will become effective on Aug. 1. After the council meets to declare a vacancy, a special election will be held within 30 to 45 days to fill the spot.
"Larry's been great to work for," Huffman said. "He's been a great Councilman. Larry's a great person, and I'll miss him."
Taylor, who won the Ward 1 seat from Robert Stallworth Sr. last year, has coaching experience. He is a former head football/basketball coach at Colmer Middle School and taught in the Pascagoula school district for over 25 years.
