Bobby Lane Smith, 25, was arrested July 8 on a charge of grand larceny.

GULFPORT -- Bobby Lane Smith of Biloxi is suspected of stealing a diamond ring worth more than $1,500 while working as a maintenance man at a Gulfport apartment complex, police said.

The ring's owner reported it missing June 23 from an apartment at Gulf Pointe on Lindh Road. Investigators learned Smith had been in the apartment to perform repairs, stole the ring and later sold it to a pawn shop, officials said.

Justice Court Judge Melvin Ray signed an arrest warrant on a grand larceny charge and set bond at $20,000.

Biloxi police found Smith on Tuesday and turned him over to Gulfport police detectives.

Smith was held at the Harrison County jail.
