The Lego Creativity Tour will be hitting the Gulf Coast like a ton of Lego bricks during the holiday season later this year.
Representatives of the tour held a press conference at the Coast Convention Center in Biloxi on Tuesday to discuss the event that will be held there.
"We will be coming to the Mississippi Coast Convention Center Dec. 5-7 with a brand new program we are launching here, the Lego Creativity Tour," said Vince Rubino, Lego Systems senior manager of event marketing.
The Creativity Tour follows Lego's successful KidsFest Program that has been travelling the nation since 2009.
The tour is a family-friendly event that is an immersive, interactive experience with Lego products. It includes many hands-on activities as families come in for a fun session.
Big models, big fun
Activities will include a model museum featuring large-scale Lego models built by master builders, race ramps in which children can design and build a car and race it, family building challenges, a construction zone and a large pile of thousands of Lego bricks that children can dive in and play with.
"We'll let you get in touch with your inner builder and enjoy some Lego fun," Rubino said.
Bill Holmes, executive director of the Convention Center, said that when the tour chose the Convention Center as the site of its debut, he viewed it as recognition that the Convention Center facilities are second to none.
"Families on the Coast have supported our efforts in expansion and improving the facilities, and now that hard work is paying off with this major national event," he said.
Kim Fritz of Mississippi Gulf Coast Regional Convention & Visitors Bureau said the event would generate more business on the Coast during December.
"This has been a regional and combined effort of our CVB staff and the Coliseum, and we have many plans to work together in similar ways from now on," she said.
Biloxi city spokesman Vincent Creel said he spoke on behalf of the entire Mississippi Gulf Coast in saying what a thrill it is to be hosting the premiere Lego Creativity Tour.
"Think about that," Creel said. "They're rolling this out for the United States, and it all starts right here, on the Mississippi Gulf Coast."
