PASCAGOULA -- A former Jackson County deputy has been arrested on sex-crime charges, Pascagoula police Capt. Shannon Massey confirmed Tuesday.

Jason McGrath, 45, was arrested June 26 on three counts of sexual battery. Gautier Municipal Judge Jason Thornton set McGrath's total bond at $30,000. He is out of jail on bond.

McGrath is accused of having sex with a 13-year-old girl on three occasions.

The alleged crimes occurred at a home in Pascagoula in June.

Massey said a complaint was filed against McGrath June 24 and an investigation followed.

"From that point, he came in, an interview was conducted and based on the interview, we signed charges," Massey said.

McGrath joined the Sheriff's Office on Sept. 14, 2002. He was fired June 11, 2013, according to sheriff's spokeswoman Cherie Ward.

Sexual battery is a felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
