Sound Off for July 8

What huddled masses?

"Send me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free." Oh, that was so yesterday.

Mess on the beach

The comments I made in Barq's On The Beach were not only about bottles on the beach but about the upbringing of the younger set as is evident by the photos in Sunday's Sun Herald. People can't even pick up after themselves after shooting off fireworks. If they were to shoot them in their front yard, would they leave the mess to be picked up by someone else or would they pick it up themselves? They have no consideration for others and could care less about the examples they show their kids and others. Keep up the good work, Sand Beach workers. Your jobs are secure as long as inconsiderate people go to the beach to celebrate.

Fired up over fireworks

Biloxi's City Council spent a lot of time on legalizing the sale of fireworks so their city could get the tax dollars for it. If they could not enforce the law and spend time on that, they would not need to sell them. There is one area that people shoot them off every night in the middle of the night. This has been going on for over a year. They may have skipped one every month, but every night, all hours of the night they shoot them. Good thing they are not shooting guns, because they have not been stopped. I used to like to watch them at the beach. Now it just makes me angry to hear them.

Two for one

A way to kill two birds with one stone: Deport all the malcontents who think America is lost, and replace them with the aliens who have risked their lives to get here. Out with the secessionists, in with the grateful. Two problems solved, for the price of one.

Family first

Next time Congress wants to go to war, I suggest that we send their sons, daughters, fathers, mothers, aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews to the front lines first. We'll see how quickly they go to war when it is their own family on the front lines rather than our families. It's easy for Congress to go to war when they don't put any of their family at risk.

Earmarks and pork

I wonder if Thad Cochran knows what the national debt was 42 years ago when he took office. The good Republican writer Cal Thomas once had an article called "Where has all the money gone?" then stated earmarks and pork. We all know Cochran is very good at both. How can Cochran be called a conservative when he was a pork barrel king? He owns this $l7 trillion debt. I am still waiting to hear him say if going into Iraq for a decade was a mistake, as we see now Iraq crumbling, trillions of dollars and 4,000 lives of our troops lost, all in vain. I will be voting for Travis Childers.
