FROM STAFF REPORTSJuly 7, 2014

The Huntsville Stars struck early and received a quality start from starter Brent Suter, leading the Stars to a 6-2 Southern League victory Monday night over the Jackson Generals at Joe Davis Stadium in Huntsville.

The victory enabled Huntsville to even the best-of-5 series at two games apiece. The rubber game is tonight.

The Stars took a 2-0 lead in the first inning against Jackson left-hander Tyler Pike (1-1). Nick Ramirez and Joey Paciorek provided back-to-back fielder's choice RBIs.

Jackson tied the game 2-2 against Suter in the top of the second inning. John Hicks hit a two-run homer to left. It was Hicks's third homer of the season.

Huntsville took the lead for good in the bottom of the third inning. With two on and one out, D'Vontrey Richardson slammed a two-run double, scoring Ramirez and Paciorek for a 4-2 lead.

Brandon Macias, who made his Double-A debut for the Stars, followed Richardson's run-producing hit with an RBI single of his own into left field.

Greg Hopkins blasted a solo home run to left field to lead off the Stars' sixth inning. It was Hopkins's sixth homer of the season and closed out the scoring.

Suter (8-6) turned in his eighth quality start of the season, working six innings. He allowed two runs on seven hits.

Suter earned his first win as a starter since his victory May 18 against Birmingham.

Greg Holle and Tim Dillard combined for three scoreless innings out of the Stars bullpen to preserve the win.
