Rodeo's Spanish Mackerel record has stood since 1972 Twitter: dougbarber2July 4, 2014

Fishermen at the Mississippi Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo are looking to set new rodeo and state records, and many rodeo records have stood the test of time.

One of the older records is in Spanish Mackerel -- 7 pounds, 6 ounces -- by Jim McGovern of New Orleans in 1972.

The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources lists the state record for Spanish Mackerel as slightly above the MDSFR record -- 8 pounds -- set in 1984 by Ron Dillistone.

Another older record is in speckled trout -- 10 pounds, 6 ounces -- set by Francis Creel of Biloxi in 1973.
