Sound Off for July 4

July 3, 2014

Don't be so naive

You are naive if you think registering with donotcall.gov will stop unwanted calls, and it's impossible to report the calls when fake phone numbers display on caller ID.

Birth certificate?

The way the accusations keep flying from the McDaniel camp, I think it's only a matter of time before they start demanding to see Cochran's birth certificate.

Good news!

U.S. employers added a robust 288,000 jobs in June; unemployment rate dropped to 6.1 percent -- the lowest unemployment rate since September 2008. And this morning the Dow Jones hit an all-time high: 17,045.40. Now that's good news for all Americans.

Free of tea

How happy are we; That elections are free. We can vote GOP; Without drinking the tea.

Keep it clean

With the Fourth of July weekend here, I hope that all who live here and visit here have a fun and safe holiday weekend. But, take pride in our beaches and clean up after yourselves by bringing trash bags to clean up your own mess. The county provides trash cans and dumpsters to be used by beach patrons, so at least bag your trash and put it by the cans or dumpsters. Take pride in our beaches and leave it clean for all to enjoy.

My rights!

Thank goodness for the U.S. Supreme Court re-affirming our religious rights and liberties. Now I heartily declare that it is against my religion and personal beliefs to pay incomes taxes, to obey the speed limit and to pay for groceries/clothing/housing. Who do I contact to make sure I no longer have to pay taxes, obey the speed limit and get free food/clothing/housing? Having to pay for these things violates my personal beliefs.

The real 'yawn'

To the former, I presume you did not play "soccer" hence the "yawn" comment. To others, yawning in sports is defined as baseball and American Football (three hours almost to play a 60 minute game?). To the latter, soccer is a later word culled from the word association when there was the need to differentiate Football from Rugby Football the former and longtime original sport being changed to Association Football.

Tolerance of intolerance?

I saw this in the news today and thought it was funny. "Our problem is tolerance. Our problem is tolerance for intolerance." So, we should be intolerant of tolerance? Funny, but something seems wrong with the intolerant, and why is it only the tolerant can be intolerant? If I keep reading this, it sounds like we should all be intolerant. No wonder people are confused.
