The Constitution of the United States was not written to protect Americans from the kings and emperors of Europe or Asia. It was written to protect us from George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Alexander Hamilton, James Madison and other would-be politicians.
That Constitution is still in effect today, although prostituted and diluted almost beyond recognition. Its purpose is still not to protect us from the tyrants and dictators of Iraq, Iran, Syria, Pakistan, Russia or Korea, but to protect us from Obama, Bush, Clinton, Boehner, Reid, Pelosi, Cheney, Kerry, Palazzo, Cochran and Bryant.
When our government was formed, it was not meant to secure special privileges or entitlements for any one person or particular group. It was meant to level the playing field and give every citizen the equal opportunity to reach his full potential, according to his abilities.
The Founding Fathers did not put term limits for Congress in the Constitution because they never imagined anyone wold want the job and responsibility of serving the country permanently. I love the politician who wants to be re-elected to his third term so he can finish the job of establishing term limits for Congress. Really? How many terms will he need to complete the job?
The Constitution still allows "we the people" the power to establish term limits for Congress. Vote every incumbent out after four years. No matter how good or how bad, we thank you for your service. Now you can go home to your spouse, children and families and live with the votes you cast while in service.
