UPDATE: Jackson County Animal Shelter opened today

The Jackson County Animal Shelter will be open today, but will be closed all day July 8 for employees to participate in training for a new software program.

An earlier story indicated the shelter would close at 1 p.m. today.

Residents looking for a new pet are encouraged to visit the shelter during regular office hours. The shelter will be closed Friday for the Fourth of July.

The shelter has more than 100 adoptable dogs and cats.

A $50 adoption fee covers spay and neutering, exam, vaccinations and preventative worming

Shelter is located at 4400 Audubon Lane in Gautier. Regular hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
