Belgium defeats US 2-1


Kevin De Bruyne scored at the 93-minute mark in extra time and Romelu Lukaku added another as Belgium defeated the United States 2-1 on Tuesday in the Round of 16 of the 2014 World Cup.

Lukaku scored at the 105-minute mark as Belgium had taken more than three times more shots on goal than the US.

The US answered with a goal by Julian Green at the 107-minute mark.

The two teams were locked in a scoreless tie after regulation.

Belgium had more scoring opportunities, especially in the second half, but was turned back from finding the net.

Awaiting Belgium in the soccer quarterfinals is Argentina, which eliminated Switzerland 1-0 in extra time on Tuesday.
