Voting comes to a close in Biloxi "Name the Team" contest

June 30, 2014

Voting in the "Name the Team" contest for Biloxi's new Double-A baseball team has come to a close with nearly 60,000 votes being cast on the team's website.

The name won't be announced until sometime in the fall following a process that includes trademark and logo development.

"Thanks to everyone for being so passionate about this process," team general manager Buck Rogers said Monday in a press release. "The team name and logo are going to represent this region very proudly. We are very excited to move on to the next step in our evolution."

The Milwaukee Brewers' Double-A team, the Huntsville Stars, will be moving to Biloxi for the 2015 campaign.

The team's new home, MGM Park, is under construction across from Beau Rivage Resort & Casino on U.S. 90 in Biloxi.

Voters chose between six finalists - Beacon, Black Jacks, Mullets, Schooners, Shrimpers and Shuckers.

Votes on the team's web site came from across the world, including Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, Israel, Germany, Italy and Bahrain.
