BAY ST. LOUIS -- Perry Decedrio Thomas, one of two men who escaped from the Hancock County jail about 5:06 p.m. Sunday, was being sought later Sunday evening, Chief Deputy Don Bass said.

Sheriff's officials believe Thomas, 28, and Montrell Lederick McPherson, 21, scaled the fence around the recreation yard.

Bass said they reportedly had an accomplice, a woman who was prepared to pick them up in a vehicle.

Investigators believe the woman, driving a red Pontiac, picked Thomas up. McPherson may not have made it across the road to the car, Bass said. Officers found McPherson on the side of the road, he said.

The woman was arrested near the state line. Thomas was not with her, leading deputies to believe she dropped him off and he may have run to the Pearlington area. The woman's name was not immediately available.

Thomas, 28, had been arrested Saturday on a sexual battery charge, traffic charges and a probation warrant from the Mississippi Department of Corrections. He was being held with no bond.

McPherson had been in jail since Feb. 20. He was being held on two counts each of robbery and sexual battery, with bonds that total $80,000.
