Siblings killed in Ocean Springs accident identified

JACKSON COUNTY -- Siblings struck and killed while crossing Mississippi 609 on Monday have been identified as Russell Benish, a California resident, and Yvonne Gogarty of South Carolina.

Both died of blunt force impact, Jackson County Coroner Vicki Broadus said.

Gogarty, a resident of Myrtle Beach, was 48. Benish's age was not available.

Mississippi Highway Patrol Lt. Johnny Poulos said a vehicle southbound on Mississippi 609 about 9:15 p.m. Monday hit the two, who were walking in the right lane in front of the Holiday Inn.

They had crossed the highway to eat at a restaurant and were hit they were headed back to the hotel, Broadus said.

No other information about the accident, which remains under investigation, has been released.
