JACKSON COUNTY -- Marine patrol officers rescued a couple after their double-seated kayak began to sink, Sheriff Charles Britt said Tuesday.

The man and his wife had spent Saturday night on Horn Island, he said, and were paddling back to Jackson County when rough waves flooded the kayak at about noon Sunday.

Marine patrol officers from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office found the man in the water and his wife inside the partially submerged kayak.

Britt said they both were wearing life jackets and neither was injured.

Officers recovered the kayak.
