Voting in Biloxi's Double-A team name contest extended another week

June 23, 2014

For the second time, officials have extended voting an extra week in the Name the Team contest for Biloxi's new Double-A baseball team.

"People's passion about the Biloxi Baseball 'Name the Team' contest is palpable ... and we love it!" a press release issued by the organization states. "In fact, nearly 48,000 votes have already been cast in the three weeks of the voting phase. Therefore we have decided to embrace the excitement and let fans continue to vote for at least one more week."

After last week's original deadline, officials extended the contest another week to give fans more opportunities to vote on the six choices: Beacon, Black Jacks, Mullets, Schooners, Shrimpers and Shuckers.

The final six options were determined by fan submissions in the first stage of the contest.

The new team name will be unveiled this fall for the organization that is currently the Huntsville Stars, the Double-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. The team is moving to Biloxi for the 2015 season and will play at MGM Park that is under construction on U.S. 90 across from Beau Rivage Resort and Casino.
