Swopes transfers from Gautier to Ocean Springs

Posted by PATRICK MAGEE on June 21, 2014

Cornerback Isaiah Swopes transferred from Gautier High School to Ocean Springs in the spring and will spend his senior season with the Greyhounds, he said Saturday.

Swopes competed in the Ocean Springs spring game and should immediately play a big role in the Greyhounds' secondary this season.

Swopes was arguably the best player on the Gautier football team last season and considered one of the better cornerbacks on the Coast. He also spent time at receiver and kick returner.

Last season, Swopes registered 40 tackles and five interceptions, including one against Ocean Springs.

Swopes has no Division I scholarship offer, but he said Saturday that he has received interest from schools that include South Alabama, Southern Miss and Florida A&M.
