One poll has McDaniel with sizeable lead, another calls it a dead heat

Posted on June 16, 2014

Republican candidate for U.S. Senate from Mississippi Chris McDaniel has opened up a significant 12-point lead over 42-year incumbent Sen. Thad Cochran, the McDaniel campaign said in a news release

The Citizens United Political Victory Fund poll, performed by Kellyanne Conway of The Polling Company, shows McDaniel leading Cochran 52 percent to 40 percent, the release said. The live-call survey was conducted on Thursday and Friday and polled 501 voters likely to vote in the June 24 runoff.

It would be wise to note the same poll found McDaniel leading 41-42 before the June 3 primary.

A Chism Strategies poll has the race much closer with Cochran leading 48-47 with 5 percent undecided. That poll of 821 households was conducted Friday evening.
