Vancleave RB Williams gets ULL, ULM offers

Posted by PATRICK MAGEE on June 4, 2014

Vancleave running back Walter Williams received his first two scholarship offers from Division I schools on Wednesday - Louisiana-Lafayette and Louisiana-Monroe.

"I'm overwhelmed right now," Williams said Wednesday. "I'm real excited. I'm going to wait and make a decision. It's just a good feeling."

Williams said that Louisiana-Lafayette is his top school at the moment.

The 6-foot, 210-pound Williams had a strong junior season, running 157 times for 1,016 yards and five touchdowns for the Bulldogs.

Williams was also a major threat to catch the ball out of the backfield with 23 receptions for 303 yards and three touchdowns.

Williams received some time on defense at safety for the Bulldogs, registering 35 tackles.

Vancleave went 7-6 this past season, reaching the third round of the Class 4A playoffs.

He also has scholarship offers from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and Jones County Junior College.
