One suspect in photo scandal took over McDaniel's radio program

Posted on May 23, 2014

We now know more about John Mary, the most mysterious of three men arrested in the widening scandal over photographs taken of Sen Thad Cochran's wife in a nursing home.

Mary of Hattiesburg took over state Sen. Chris McDaniel's 'The Right Side' radio program when he was elected to state Senate, the Clarion-Ledger in Jackson reports. Mary used the name John Bert and occasionally had McDaniel as a guest host, the paper said. McDaniel is challenging Cochran for his Senate seat.

Mary and Tea Party official Mark Mayfield, soccer coach/teacher Richard Sager and blogger "Constitutional" Clayton Kelly are all charged with conspiracy. Kelly also faces a couple charges that accuse him of taking the photographs in question and Sager faces a charge of obstruction of justice for what appears to be tampering with unamed evidence.

Kelly remains in custody the others were freed on bond, Mary on recognizance due to a medical condition.

McDaniel hasn't responded to requests to talk about Mary, the Clarion-Ledger said.

He has in the past denied having anything to do with the incident.
