EMCC OL David Mahaffey headed to Louisiana Tech

Posted by JAMES JONES on May 13, 2014

East Mississippi Community College offensive tackle David Mahaffey is headed to Louisiana Tech next month.

Mahaffey is taking advantage of the NCAA rule, where academic qualifiers can leave Junior College after one year. Because Mahaffey qualified academically out of Brandon High School, he wasn't required to graduate from EMCC.

The Bulldogs offered and Mahaffey accepted after a campus visit. He will arrive in Ruston next month to compete for a starting job. At 6-foot-3 and 310 pounds, he will play guard at Louisiana tech.

"At first it kind of was (a hard decision to leave EMCC)," Mahaffey told Bleedtechblue.com.  "Because you think about well am I going to get something bigger if I stay or should I just wait and see what's going to happen.

"But, after I came on the visit and got to meet some of the players and meet Coach (Skip) Holtz and got to see all the good stuff that comes with playing ball, it was a no-brainer after that. Everything just fit."
