Underwood no longer in USM mix, staying at SFA

It appears that the reported top candidate for the Southern Miss basketball head coaching job is no longer in the mix for the position.

Stephen F. Austin head coach Brad Underwood has decided to stay in his current job, SFA said in a statement on its athletic department web site Wednesday.

“Coach Underwood has indicated to me that he will remain a Lumberjack," SFA athletics director Robert Hill said in the release. "I look forward to another exciting season with him leading our program, and we will continue to move forward with Coach Underwood and what should be a great basketball team.”

Gary Parrish of CBSsports.com reported Tuesday night that Underwood had been offered the job and he was expected to accept.

The search will go on for USM with Iowa State assistant Doc Sadler now reportedly very much in the mix for the job.

Murray State assistant Steve Prohm and Southeastern Louisiana head coach Jay Ladner could also be under consideration at this point for USM athletic director Bill McGillis.
