Is USM's football schedule tougher than that of LSU and Michigan?

Posted by PATRICK MAGEE on April 1, 2014

It's not often when Southern Miss is considered to have a tougher football schedule than LSU, Michigan and Virginia Tech, but that's the case for the 2014 season.

USM's 2014 football schedule ranks as the 51st toughest in the country according to calculations by fbschedules.com.

The website used the NCAA's strength of schedule method, which is based solely on the winning percentage of the team's opponents.

The team with the toughest schedule is Arkansas, whose opponents were 103-54 last year. The team with the easiest schedule is a new Sun Belt member, Georgia Southern.

USM's opponents had a combined record of 83-69 last season.

The Conference USA team with the toughest schedule is Louisiana Tech, which ranks 39th overall. The C-USA squad with the easiest schedule is North Texas, which comes in at No. 127.

Ole Miss' schedule is ranked 26th while Mississippi State is at No. 60.
