The Southern Miss men went on the road and topped Missouri, 71-63, Sunday to advance to the NIT quarterfinals for a second consecutive season.

The Golden Eagles will travel to Minnesota for an 8 p.m. quarterfinal contest on Tuesday. If USM wins, it will advance to the NIT semifinals at Madison Square Garden.

USM's win in Columbia, Mo., Sunday was Missouri's first home loss to a non-conference opponent since 2005.

Southern Miss pushed its overall mark to an unprecedented 29-6 while Missouri's season ends with a 23-12 record.

USM senior point guard Neil Watson had one of his better games of the season with 18 points and seven assists. Michael Craig was strong again with 12 points and 10 rebounds while Aaron Brown added 16 points.

USM shot 42.6 percent from the field and hit nine-of-23 attempts on 3-pointers. Against a much larger team, USM won the rebounding battle, 34-29.

Southern Miss and Minnesota have never played before.

USM junior guard Chip Armelin is a transfer from Minnesota.
