USM women advance to C-USA title game

The Southern Miss women's basketball team beat UTEP, 84-70, Friday to advance to the Conference USA Tournament championship at 7 p.m. on Saturday in El Paso, Texas.

Senior point guard Jamierra Faulkner was clutch down the stretch for the Lady Eagles, scoring 22 of her team-high 26 points in the second half as USM erased a four-point deficit with 8:49 remaining in the game. Faulkner also had eight rebounds and seven assists.

Jerontay Clemons added 17 points for Southern Miss and Tamara Jones had 13 points and eight rebounds.

Southern Miss (26-5) extended its winning streak to a league-best 13 games while UTEP dropped to 24-7.

USM will face No. 20 Middle Tennessee (28-4) in Saturday's 7 p.m. title game, which will be televised by CBS Sports Network.

Southern Miss beat Middle Tennessee, 68-56, in the regular season meeting between the two schools on Feb. 5 in Hattiesburg.
