College roundup: OM, MSU baseball win; MGCCC basketball loses
OLE MISS 4, ULM 3 -- Will Allen came up with a bases-loaded single with two outs in the ninth to push Ole Miss (8-1) to a 4-3 walk-off win over ULM Wednesday night at Swayze Field.
Cheyne Bickel (1-1) picked up the win in relief, working the final 2.1 innings and holding the Warhawks off the board while striking out one batter and not allowing a walk. Starter Jeremy Massie worke five no-hit, scoreless innings in his first start as a Rebel.
Carey Taylor (0-1) took the loss, allowing two runs on five hits with three walks and two strikeouts in 4.1 innings of relief. He put the winning run on base in the ninth after giving up the tying run in the eighth.
MISSISSIPPI STATE 10, MOUNT ST. MARY'S 1 -- Demarcus Henderson, Wes Rea and Brett Pirtle knocked in two runs a piece as Mississippi swept its two game series with Mount St. Mary's. Derrick Armstrong and Gavin Collins each scored twice for the Bulldogs.
Preston Brown earned the victory for MSU (6-4) by not allowing an earned run in six innings of work. He struck out seven and walked five.
ITAWAMBA CC 97, MGCCC 89 -- Itawamba took it's first lead of the second half at the 9:18 mark and never looked back in a 97-89 win over Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Wednesday in the MACJC semifinals Wednesday.
The Bulldogs (19-6) were looking for a third State title in the last four seasons and will now regroup for next week's Region 23 Tournament in Clinton.
Tony Bridges, an Auburn football commitment, again led Gulf Coast with 25 points while Rashad Perkins had 22 and Roger Woods added 17.
Gulf Coast led 46-43 at halftime.
