The Sun Herald reported on Tuesday the Attorney General's office is asking the state Supreme Court to set executions dates for two death row inmates.
One is a male, one is a female. Appeals have been filed and denied.
They both committed terrible crimes and should be punished. However, I do not understand how killing someone is the right thing to do. There have been a lot of people put to death in Mississippi. There are 50 more waiting, including two females. Ages range from 28 to 67.
Yes, they committed terrible crimes and should be punished. However, can anyone prove the death penalty has curbed crime? Does killing a human being solve the problem we have with crime?
People who commit terrible crimes should be locked up and never let out. Make them work for their food, water, care, clothes and whatever else their imprisonment costs the state.
Taking the life of a human being has not stopped crime at all.
I pray for the victims of these inmates. I pray for those charged with putting these people to death. And I pray for the day we can figure out an alternative to the death penalty.
