It is a particular pleasure to join the celebration of Dorothy Wilson's latest achievement. On Tuesday, the Mississippi Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce honored her with the silver edition of the Pat Santucci Spirit of the Coast Award.
She is the 25th recipient of the award, which recognizes a resident of South Mississippi who has made contributions of significance in the field of business for the past calendar year and demonstrates ethical conduct, leadership and achievement.
Wilson, a former managing editor and special publications manager at this newspaper, is the fifth person with ties to the Sun Herald to be so recognized.
She now owns DWilson & Associates Publishing and Marketing Solutions, and develops and serves as editor/manager, marketing director and interactive content manager for Gulf Coast Woman and PlayTheCoast magazines.
She and her husband, James, have owned and operated Mighty Men Movers for 10 years.
She also donates her time and talents to the MLK Fire Prevention Canvassing project, the NAACP, the Mental Health Association of South Mississippi, the Lighthouse Business & Professional Women, the Women's Initiative Advisory Council of United Way and the Boys & Girls Club of South Mississippi.
As Chamber CEO Kimberly Nastasi said of Wilson on Tuesday, "Skilled in the execution of high-level strategies and fundamental tactics, specialist in conceptualization and execution of printed and digital products, strong communicator, strategic marketer and public relations manager, highly skilled as editor, graphic designer, project manager and people manager, creative and innovative, able to exercise good judgment and lead in a rapidly changing environment -- these are facts that describe this year's recipient."
Again, it is a pleasure to congratulate Dorothy Wilson on this great honor and we salute her embodiment of the spirit of the Coast.
