I have a YMBC story.
Back in the '70s, when I lived in Pascagoula, a representative of the venerable YMBC organization called me, at home, to tell me that I had been selected to be a member of the upcoming YMBC court.
When he told me the date of this event, I knew I would regretfully have to decline. My younger sister's wedding fell on that date in Virginia!
I was an intregal part of the wedding party and would never consider backing out. When I told him about the conflict, he said, without hesitation, " Well, surely she can change the wedding date".
He really really meant it!
When I told him that was impossible and that I would not be able to accept YMBC's invitation, he said "Well dear. Do you know that no one has ever declined? You will not be invited again".
I missed my moment to shine in YMBC's traditions, however, my then toddler daughter was to reign as YMBC's queen several years later and what a gorgeous queen she was!
