PASS CHRISTIAN -- The Pass Christian Krewe of Legacy Mardi Gras parade attracted a wide range of spectators from South Mississippi on Saturday.
The Ruffin family of five made the journey from Columbia to attend Pass Christian's first Carnival parade of the year.
"We always attend at least one parade on the Coast each year," Ashley Ruffin said. "We don't have Mardi Gras parades in Columbia. We went to a Mardi Gras parade in D'Iberville last year."
Mikayla Cappas and her family came over from Gulfport.
"We just love going to Mardi Gras parades," Cappas said. "It doesn't matter where they are on the Coast."The parade lived up to its theme, Unmask the Myth. All 20 floats were unique, including a black and gold Krewe of Saints. Most of the floats were colored in purple, yellow and green. Six floats had horses.
The best throws were plastic cups and large decorated beads.
Parade captain Jeffrey Cuevas said an estimated crowd of 3,000 attended the parade.
"We're pleased with the turnout," Parade co-chairman Sidney Cuevas said. "We didn't have any problems. The parade season's off to a great start in Pass Christian."
