Coast Transit Authority will likely be back on the Biloxi City Council's agenda after a misunderstanding between the two surfaced Friday evening.
Friday afternoon, CTA released its latest round of route adjustments, approved Thursday by the CTA's board of commissioners.
In addition to cutting Route 24 to Keesler on Sundays, canceling Beachcomber route U.S. 90 in Biloxi on Sundays and adjusting the Casino Hopper Route on Sundays, the release said Route 31 in Biloxi on Saturdays will be eliminated.
According to the council's resolution pertaining to the CTA funding, Biloxi gave the public transportation provider an additional $65,000 "to maintain the current level of fixed route service, i.e. Route 31, serving east Biloxi and all Sunday fixed route services."
"The conditions to the resolution with the funding, there were strings attached," Council President Paul Tisdale said. "Because that clause was not met, I'll bring it up for reconsideration during Tuesday's meeting."
CTA Executive Director Kevin Coggin said Friday afternoon he hadn't read the resolution. He said he based his recommendations to the CTA commissioners on conversations in Tuesday's council meeting.
"If you look at the discussion that transpired during the council meeting, it was very clear that we asked for $131,000 and that they made $65,000 available, which we are very appreciative of," he said. "I had no knowledge of what was in the resolution and still don't." The council did not provide Coggin with a copy of the resolution.
Tuesday's additional funding was approved by a 4-3 vote. Ward 2 Councilman Felix Gines, who voted for the funding, said he was under the impression Route 31, which is in his district, would remain the same.
Tisdale said in order for the recent resolution to be reconsidered, one of the council members who voted to approve it has to bring it back up.
"That will be me because I sponsored the resolution," he said. " It might well be that that amount is rescinded. If that's the case, then of course CTA has to adjust their budget accordingly."
The route changes are set to be implemented March 9.
The newest set of changes will be coupled with previously approved changes, which will be implemented March 2:
n Route 24 to Keesler will be eliminated Mondays through Thursdays.
n Route 37 in Gulfport will eliminate service to the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport and add service to Dedeaux Road.
n Fares will be increased.
Coggin did not have ridership numbers readily available when reached for comment Friday afternoon.
