Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College closed out its regular season with a 71-67 win over Hinds on Thursday as Chris Bilbo and Rashad Perkins hit for 18 points each.
However, that victory was not enough to enable the Bulldogs to capture the South Division's top seed for next week's MACJC State Tournament at Itawamba Community College.
Gulf Coast (18-5, 11-3) finished in a tie with Jones Junior College (19-4, 11-3) for first place. Since the two teams split their regular-season series, the second tiebreaker concerned how they fared against the No. 3 team in the division, which is Pearl River.
Jones earned the No. 1 seed by sweeping Pearl River, while Mississippi Gulf Coast split with PRCC. Southwest will be the No. 4 seed.
Jones, Meridian and Pearl River each finished with 10-4 division records on the women's side. Since all three teams split their series with each other, they went to the tiebreaker concerning point spreads and Jones got the top seed.
The Gulf Coast women (9-13, 5-9) ended their season Thursday with a 71-64 win over Hinds. They did not qualify for the state tournament.
The state tournament begins Monday with four men's games.
The lineup Monday is:
