Gulfport murder victim identified
GULFPORT -- The victim from Thursday's murder has been identified.
Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove said Quintin Brinkley, 39, of Gulfport, died from blunt-force trauma to the head.
Gulfport police arrested William Cullen King Jr., 25, on Thursday in Brinkley's murder, Police Chief Leonard Papania said.
Police responded to a suspicious medical call on the 2700 block of Gulf Avenue about 11 a.m. Thursday, Papania said, and found Brinkley, who received a head injury by unknown means.
Brinkley was taken to an area hospital where he later died from his injury, Papania said.
Brinkley's identity had been withheld while next of kin was notified.
During the investigation, police identified King as the suspect and learned he had assaulted Brinkley following an argument, Papania said. Police later found King walking in the area, Papania said, and arrested him without further incident.
King is being held at the Harrison County jail in lieu of a $1 million bond set by Justice Court Judge Diane Ladner. The investigation is ongoing.
